am i outraged? i'm barely surprised.
The more I watch the news, the less surprised I become at the outrage that is beginning to permeate American news sources, from CNN to Fox. I remember the time when the Fox News channel used to inevitably slant the news so as to portray the Republican administration as favorably as possible. That just doesn't seem to be the case anymore.
Some would argue that news sources should be unbiased and detached. But on the contrary, I feel almost a kind of pride when I listen to the news these days, when I see reporters wading through the disgust and disease in New Orleans, and finally asking the questions about why "the cavalry" took 5 days, why there are still people without water, why children and grandmothers are still dying with the passing of every hour, and why President Bush is still determined to speak of nothing except "the steady flow of progress" that appears to most to be all but invisible.
After reading this Slate piece, I almost want to cheer for the reporters who were finally willing to impart to us the emotion, regret, and anger that our leaders seemed determined to hide.
